Drilling through solid concrete will burn out your drill bits if you are lucky and burn out your entire drill if you are not. This is where a quality SDS hammer drill will come in. These types of drills are far more powerful than the standard ones and can easily drill right through solid rock even.
The design of the drill is quite different and the drill has a mechanism inside that actually pushes the drill for you. Essentially you just hold the drill and push lightly and it will do all the hard work for you.
When I had to change my floor tiles I used the SDS drill with a chisel type attachment to actually chip the tiles off the floor. Although it was still hard work I cannot imagine doing it without the help from the SDS drill.
